Type Locality and Naming
Middle Qilian (north-central Gansu-Qinghai border region). The Chaganburgas Fm was named by Qian Jiagi et al. in 1981. The typical section is located in Chaganburgas in Subei Mongolian Autonomous County, Gansu Province. Upper formation of the Duoruonuor Gr.

Lithology and Thickness
The Chaganburgas Fm is dominantly composed of phyllite, limestone and marble, which is subdivided into three parts. Lower part is composed of dark gray thin-bedded siliceous limestone, thick-bedded siliceous marble interbedded with calcareous slate. Middle part consists of dark gray thick-bedded limestone, siliceous crystalline limestone, carbonaceous limestone intercalated with brown thin-bedded calcareous sandstone and carbonaceous slate. Upper part consists of light gray to gray phyllite, carbonaceous phyllite interbedded with thin-bedded carbonaceous limestone. The Chaganburgas Formation is with thickness from 245 to 508 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It overlies conformably the underlying Bianmagou Fm
Upper contact
It unconformably underlies the overlying Devonian or Upper Devonian to Lower Carboniferous.
Regional extent
Middle Qilian (north-central Gansu-Qinghai border region). It is dominantly distributed in Chaganburgas area in Subei County Subei Mongolian Autonomous County, Gansu Province.

It yields microplants: Asperatopsophosphaera umishanensis, Margominuscula antiqua, Trachysphaeridium rugosum, T. simplex, T. rude, T planum, T. incrassatum etc.
